My uncle Hans Marius (61) has suffered from schizophrenia for over 30 years. Things go relatively well with him, although he lives a rather lonely life in the city of Delft.
He is actively searching for the cause of this problem. In this search for recovery he often turns to Christianity. I visit him regularly and one time he asked me if I could photograph him. At first it felt awkward, but now I always bring my camera.
Over the years I photographed him in his daily life and joined him on several pilgrimages. Slowly a unique insight in his life is emerging.
This series is currently shown in Het Dolhuys museum in Haarlem.
